Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk Unveil 2026 Gemini Network Adjustments
Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk are set to implement significant service adjustments to their jointly operated Gemini network in 2026, following a successful first year of operations that partners report achieved schedule reliability of at least 90 percent.
The revised service structure, scheduled to commence in April 2026, features modifications across the Far East to North Europe and Far East to Mediterranean trade lanes. These changes are designed to optimize port coverage and enhance transit times.
**Far East to North Europe Revisions:**
On the North Europe route, the NE2 service will incorporate a direct call at Antwerp, thereby broadening access to Benelux markets and facilitating inland European cargo movements.
The NE3 service will introduce a Baltic rotation, including calls at Aarhus and Gothenburg. Southampton will serve as the final European port of call for Asia-bound voyages. In Asia, Ningbo will be replaced by Yantian on this service to bolster coverage in South China.
The NE4 service will return to its original rotation, omitting the Baltic loop which will now be handled by NE3. This adjustment is anticipated to strengthen direct connections between Ningbo and German ports.
**Mediterranean Network Adjustments:**
Within the Mediterranean region, the SE1 service will add Algeciras calls in both westbound and eastbound directions, improving connections to Spain and the Adriatic area.
The SE3 service will see an upgrade to 20,000 TEU vessels and will operate a streamlined rotation aimed at improving reliability. Istanbul and Izmit will be served through dedicated shuttle services, while calls at Port Said East and the new hub terminal in Damietta are integrated into the revised loop.
