Port of Hamburg Marketing has officially established a new representative office in Dubai, strengthening its international network and strategic engagement with a vital global trade corridor. The office, named the Hamburg Representative Office UAE and Gulf Region, has been operational since January 2026 and benefits from the support of several institutional partners.

The Gulf region plays a crucial role in connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa, and its significance is growing as a future hub for renewable energy and evolving supply chains. This dual commercial and strategic importance motivated Hamburg's decision to formalize its presence in the area.

Trade volumes between Hamburg and the UAE, Red Sea, and Gulf region demonstrate this growth. Container traffic on this route increased by 28.8% to approximately 130,000 TEU in the first nine months of 2025, compared to the same period in the previous year. Specifically, Hamburg held a market share of nearly 80% among German seaports for direct container traffic with the UAE in 2024.

The new office is led by Kirsten Staab, who brings over 25 years of regional experience and has managed Hamburg's representative presence in the Gulf since 2008. Staab emphasized the increasing importance of blue and green hydrogen and their derivatives as future energy imports for Germany, highlighting the Port of Hamburg's strategic positioning.
