TPM26: Global Trade Remains Resilient Amidst Uncertainties, Says Hellmann CEO
Despite ongoing trade tensions and geopolitical challenges, global trade volumes, particularly in ocean freight, are expected to remain robust. Jens Drewes, CEO of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, expressed this outlook at the TPM26 conference. Meanwhile, the air cargo sector faces significant disruption. K+N CEO Stefan Paul warned that nearly 20% of global air freight capacity has been removed from the market due to airport closures and flight cancellations in the Middle East, stemming from the ongoing conflict. This situation is leading to a backlog at Asian airports. Furthermore, carriers have temporarily suspended cargo bookings on India-Middle East routes due to chaos at Persian Gulf ports. While time-sensitive reefer (refrigerated) cargo is a primary concern, many major shipping lines have halted all shipments to the Middle East until further notice. Industry experts also anticipate that the Middle East conflict will have widespread repercussions across global trade routes. The shipping industry is closely monitoring the Houthi movement's reaction to recent US/Israeli attacks on Iran.
