Patrick Terminals has introduced a new program to assist importers and exporters utilizing rail freight at its PortRail Melbourne terminal. This initiative underscores the company's dedication to boosting supply chain efficiency and expanding rail freight volumes at the Port of Melbourne.

The program aligns with the Port of Melbourne's recently unveiled Port Rail Shuttle Network (PRSN) Start-up Incentive.

Effective March 1, 2026, for a duration of two years, Patrick will eliminate the Exchange Transfer Charge for eligible containers transported by rail to and from Patrick PortRail Melbourne. This temporary incentive is designed to aid customers in their transition to PortRail services.

The offer is applicable to containers originating from or destined for Somerton Intermodal Terminal, SCT Altona, and Salta Dandenong.

Patrick Terminals CEO Michael Jovicic stated that the initiative reflects the company's commitment to practical, customer-focused solutions.

"Rail is crucial for alleviating congestion, enhancing reliability, and fostering long-term efficiency. This arrangement removes obstacles to rail adoption and provides concrete support for importers and exporters who opt for rail transport," he commented.

This announcement follows Patrick's ongoing investments in rail infrastructure aimed at supporting increased rail volumes and promoting more sustainable freight solutions.

Patrick will continue its collaboration with the Port of Melbourne, rail operators, and intermodal partners to increase rail's contribution to container movements and deliver more resilient and sustainable supply chains.
