South Korean yard Hanwha Ocean has claimed a world-first in LNG handling, successfully carrying out a ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of liquefied natural gas between two vessels while both were still on sea trials.The landmark operation took place off Geoje Island, involving the newbuilds <em>Maran Gas Syros </em>and GasLog’s <em>Woodside Jirrubakura</em>.According to the builder, the controlled transfer of the super chilled fuel&mdash; completed without incident &mdash; marks a major step forward in LNG bunkering and handling safety.&ldquo;This successful test confirms that our LNG technology and operational systems are ready for the next generation of clean energy shipping,&rdquo; Hanwha Ocean said in a statement, describing the achievement as a demonstration of &ldquo;engineering precision and global leadership in cryogenic transfer operations.&rdquo;
