Vehicle Trade Slows at Valenciaport Amid Global Automotive Sector Headwinds
Valenciaport is experiencing a downturn in its vehicle import and export operations, mirroring broader challenges within the global automotive industry. In October, the port's terminals managed the movement of 50,465 vehicles, marking an 11.75% decrease compared to October of the previous year. Year-to-date, from January to October, the total volume of vehicles handled stood at 480,441 units, a 10.43% reduction. On an annual basis, the port processed 587,208 vehicles, representing a 9.48% decline. These figures are indicative of the current state of the automotive sector, both domestically in Spain and on a global scale, which is grappling with issues such as labor shortages, geopolitical instability, and technological transformations.
In contrast, other cargo segments at Valenciaport have shown positive performance. According to the Port Authority of Valencia, the first ten months of the year saw the handling of 2.74 million tonnes (Mt) of liquid bulk (a decrease of 39%), 2.36 Mt of solid bulk (an increase of 15.41%), 13.26 Mt of non-containerised goods (up 2.63%), 49.37 Mt of containerised goods (a rise of 10.76%), 1,484 tonnes of fishing products (a significant jump of 47.34%), and 395,575 tonnes of victualling supplies (an increase of 10%).
Collectively, Valenciaport processed over 68 million tonnes of goods during this period, a 5.72% increase compared to the same timeframe last year.
