Stena Line and ABP to Construct Major Freight Ferry Terminal at Port of Immingham
Swedish ferry giant Stena Line, in collaboration with Associated British Ports (ABP), is set to invest over £200 million in a new freight ferry terminal at the Port of Immingham. The UK Government has granted a Development Consent Order (DCO), paving the way for the construction of this significant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) facility. A 50-year agreement signed in 2022 by Stena Line and ABP formalised the partnership, giving the ferry operator control of the new terminal. This strategic move is expected to boost economic growth in North-East England, particularly within the growing unaccompanied freight market.
Stena Line, a leading global ferry operator with extensive routes across Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, is strengthening its footprint in Lincolnshire. Immingham is becoming a key logistics centre for the company, which already operates two daily services from the Humber to the Netherlands. Furthermore, Stena's parent company has recently acquired full ownership of NTEX, a transport and logistics firm located at the port.
Responding to increasing customer demand in the region, Stena Line is expanding its capacity. The new RoRo terminal will offer direct access to the Humber Estuary, enabling faster sailing times and enhancing the company's operational efficiency.
