Petronas Awards Large 3D Seismic Survey in Suriname to Shearwater Geoservices
Norwegian offshore seismic contractor Shearwater Geoservices has secured a significant 3D seismic survey contract from Malaysian energy company Petronas in Suriname. The project, encompassing 6,000 square kilometers, signifies an ongoing collaboration between the two companies in this emerging exploration region, following Shearwater's previous acquisition work in Block 52.
Shearwater announced that its vessel, the Amazon Warrior, has been assigned to the three-month survey, scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024.
'High-quality seismic data is a key enabler for unlocking the vast resource potential of the prolific Suriname-Guyana basin and accelerating exploration activities,' stated Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater.
This latest award follows closely on the heels of another significant contract for Shearwater, which also recently secured a deepwater Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) survey in West Africa, also slated for a fourth-quarter 2024 start. This West African project will notably be the first to leverage the SW Tasman vessel's integrated seismic source and dual Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) node deployment capabilities within a single deepwater OBN survey operation.
