Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) played a crucial role in supporting a recent pilot program for ammonia ship-to-ship transfers. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD), Pilbara Ports, and Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA). The operation, conducted at the Port of Dampier in Western Australia's Pilbara region, represents a significant milestone in establishing the Pilbara as a hub for green ammonia bunkering. Vania De Stefani, CEO of OSRL, stated, "By working closely with key stakeholders, we were able to apply our expertise in oil spill response and contingency planning to ensure safety and effective incident control. The success of this trial is a testament to strong partnerships and open communication, allowing us to overcome technical and operational challenges together throughout the project." OSRL also collaborated with industry leaders to develop an emergency response plan specifically for ship-to-ship ammonia transfers. The two successful transfers, executed under stringent safety protocols, underscore a major advancement in positioning the Pilbara as a center for low-greenhouse gas (GHG) emission shipping. These operations were overseen by Pilbara Ports and Australian Government agencies, ensuring adherence to strict safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. OSRL's specialized knowledge was instrumental in devising emergency response procedures tailored to the distinct risks of ammonia transfers, culminating in the creation of a draft Pilbara-specific Emergency Response Plan (ERP) in collaboration with...
