Shippers Warned: Review Insurance as War-Risk Policies Exclude Delays
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is prompting insurers and shippers to re-evaluate their exposure to disruptions affecting air and sea transport. Supply chain insurance provider Otonomi reports a significant surge in inquiries from shippers looking for coverage that extends beyond standard cargo policies, driven by the current uncertainty.
"As uncertainty escalates, so does the understanding that traditional cargo insurance does not compensate for the actual losses shippers incur during disruptions," stated an Otonomi spokesperson to The Loadstar. While war-risk insurance typically covers physical damage to cargo due to conflict, it generally does not extend to financial losses stemming from transit delays.
