New Liebherr Mobile Harbor Crane Boosts Antwerp XL Operations
International Car Operator NV (ICO) has significantly enhanced its operational capacity at the Vrasene terminal in Antwerp with the acquisition of a second Liebherr mobile harbor crane, the LHM 550. This new addition boasts a 54-meter outreach and a lifting capacity of up to 154 tonnes, reinforcing ICO's leading role in the roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargo handling sector.
The Vrasene terminal, a sprawling 125-hectare facility, handles approximately 7,000 vehicles daily and a growing volume of project cargo moved by barge. The integration of the second LHM 550 is anticipated to streamline both container and project cargo handling, leading to faster transshipment and reduced turnaround times – crucial elements in today's dynamic logistics landscape.
Alain Guillemyn, Managing Director at ICO Terminals, commented, "The addition of the second Liebherr LHM 550 to our Antwerp terminal reflects our commitment to innovation and flexibility for all kinds of cargo projects. We aim to deliver efficiency and reliability across every operation, from traditional vehicle handling to complex project cargo. This investment further strengthens our position as a leader in sustainable, future-ready logistics solutions."
Scheduled for delivery in eight months, the new crane will replace older equipment unable to cope with the increasing unit weights, often exceeding 100 tonnes, demanded by the evolving market. ICO's continued investment in Liebherr equipment is a testament to a long-standing relationship and confidence in their technology.
