Mersin International Port (MIP) has reached a major milestone with the successful berthing of the 400-meter, 19,313-TEU container ship MSC DITTE at its newly completed East Med Hub 2 (EMH2) Terminal.
The event marks the first call of a mega vessel at the 880-meter terminal, highlighting MIP’s growing capacity and strategic role in regional and global trade. The arrival was celebrated with a ceremony hosted by MIP General Manager Ajay Kumar Singh, attended by officials and industry representatives, including Singapore Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Ann Margaret Mathew and senior executives from MSC and local trade organizations.
Mr. Singh said the milestone reflects MIP’s readiness to handle the world’s largest container vessels. “Hosting MSC DITTE demonstrates our ability to support efficient, sustainable global trade. EMH2’s deep-water infrastructure, high-capacity cranes, and digital systems strengthen Mersin’s position as a key logistics hub linking Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia,” he said.
MSC Mersin Regional Manager Uğur Tosuner added that the vessel will enhance fast, direct connections between Türkiye, West Africa, and the Far East, underscoring MSC’s continued investment in the country.
Speaking on behalf of Singapore, Ann Margaret Mathew noted that PSA’s investment in EMH2 reinforces confidence in Türkiye’s long-term economic growth. “MIP’s expansion supports stronger global supply chains and contributes to regional development,” she said.
The successful handling of MSC DITTE at EMH2 marks a new chapter for MIP as it continues to expand capacity and connectivity across international shipping routes.
