The Indian government has met dockworker demands and managed to avert a nationwide strike at its ports, which was scheduled to start tomorrow. Government and unions shook hands on a revised wage agreement and a productivity-linked reward scheme, avoiding a strike that would have hit 12 ports on both coasts of the the world’s most populous nation.A previous pay contract expired in December 2021 and wage negotiations had failed to deliver a result in the intervening years.
