Supply chain software provider Descartes announced Wednesday it has acquired Assure Assist, which operates as MyCarrierPortal (MCP). MCP offers technology enabling brokers to accurately identify and authenticate carriers. Descartes paid $24 million upfront and has committed to an additional $6 million in earnout payments, contingent on the combined entity meeting specific revenue targets over the next two years. "Carrier fraud and cargo theft are persistent issues in the transportation industry. This acquisition represents a further investment in enhancing Know-Your-Carrier (KYC) capabilities, which are vital for improving supply chain performance and reducing fraud," stated Dan Cicerchi, general manager of transportation management at Descartes, in a press release. Atlanta-based MCP assists shippers and brokers with carrier onboarding and risk monitoring. The platform allows users to define carrier requirements and screen them based on various risk and compliance metrics, ensuring "legitimacy, insurance compliance, and an acceptable safety record." Carriers selected on the platform undergo continuous monitoring for adherence to established risk tolerances. Ontario, Canada-based Descartes (NASDAQ: DSGX) financed the acquisition using existing cash reserves. "The integration of MCP with our Descartes MacroPoint FraudGuard tool offers a unique solution for our customers, facilitating efficient carrier onboarding while simultaneously boosting visibility and compliance."
