The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia has approved an administrative concession to Toyota Logistics Services Spain for operation of a freight logistics terminal dedicated to loading, unloading, storage, sorting, control, custody, and transfer of new Lexus and Toyota vehicles at the south quay of the Port of Sagunto.
The concession approval was among issues discussed at the Board of Directors meeting, which also ratified the appointment of Aurelio Acedo as the new managing director of the APV, following Enrique Belda’s departure at his own request.
Acedo holds a PhD in civil engineering and possesses extensive APV experience, having worked in the operations department.
This concession establishes Sagunto as an intermodal logistics hub for Toyota, where vehicles from various factories will arrive for national and international distribution, with rail transport playing a significant role due to Mediterranean Corridor proximity.
The Sagunto facilities will distribute to both the Spanish market and other European and Mediterranean destinations including Portugal, France, Italy, and Malta.
The Board of Directors has agreed to revoke the concession granted to Puerto Natura Valencia SL for passenger terminal operations.
Valenciaport has taken this decision to rethink distribution of docks included in this project, considering traffic changes, new ship maneuverability requirements, and Valenciaport’s connectivity with other ports. T
hese aspects have evolved significantly since initial plans were developed for the area originally granted to Puerto Natura.
Recent maneuverability reports commissioned to increase analytical scenario realism highlighted the need for additional technical considerations to ensure safe operations. The entire passenger traffic area requires reconsideration and dock improvements to provide optimal customer service, ensuring proper port-city integration at all times.
The Board of Directors has also approved an agreement authorizing use of certain APV spaces by the Valencia Tax and Border Unit and the Valencia Provincial Maritime Service.
These facilities will be utilized for smuggling prevention and prosecution, border and port facility security, customs area control, public safety, illegal immigration, nature and environmental conservation, and fisheries control and inspection, among other functions.
