The Port of Oakland, in collaboration with its partners, marked California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 21st, by mobilizing volunteers to collect litter from the shoreline. This initiative was held concurrently with Oakland Creek to Bay Day at two key locations: Middle Harbor Shoreline Park (MHSP), situated within the Oakland Seaport, and East Creek Slough, part of Martin Luther King Jr. Shoreline Park. Amy Tharpe, Director of Social Responsibility at the Port of Oakland, emphasized that the event provided an excellent platform for community engagement and raised public awareness regarding the significance of environmental stewardship. Both cleanup events commenced at 9 am local time and concluded at noon. Volunteers were treated to lunch, received prizes, and had opportunities for photos as a token of appreciation for their contributions. Notably, 75 bags of trash were collected from the East Bay shoreline.
