AI safety technology firm Captain’s Eye has completed its Series A funding round, bringing in backing from major shipping groups Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), MOL PLUS of Mitsui OSK Lines, and The Caravel Group.The investors, which collectively control or manage more than 1,700 ships, are supporting the company’s bid to scale its AI-powered video analytics system across fleets, ports and onshore facilities. Terms of the funding round were not disclosed.Founded in 2020 by Uri Ben Dor and Doron Oizerovich, Captain’s Eye has developed an AI-based system that provides real-time detection of safety and security incidents, from fire risks and leaks to unsafe crew behaviour. The technology is already deployed across hundreds of vessels.CEO Uri Ben Dor said the new investors bring more than capital, adding that their backing would accelerate development and global rollout.EPS chief executive Cyril Ducau described the system as a “game-changer” in improving safety and resilience, while MOL PLUS CEO Takuya Sakamoto highlighted its potential for preventing fires on car carriers. Caravel chief of operations Angad Banga said the technology integrates with traditional shipmanagement to cut risks and improve performance.Captain’s Eye added the funding underscores a broader shift in shipping, with operators placing greater emphasis on early risk detection, resilience and safety standards.
