SAAM Terminals Achieves Carbon Footprint Reduction Milestones in Chile
SAAM Terminals has marked a significant milestone in Chile, with all of its ports successfully certifying carbon emission reductions for the first time in 2023. The terminals located in Antofagasta, Iquique, San Antonio, San Vicente, and Corral were awarded the 'Huella Chile' emissions reduction seal, underscoring their teams' commitment to developing more sustainable operations. 'At SAAM Terminals, we are convinced that we can continue to advance, and this is something we are actively promoting across our operations,' stated Cristina Schmidt, VP of Sustainability and Communications. Schmidt specifically highlighted the exceptional efforts of San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI), which also earned the Seal of Excellence, the highest tier of recognition within the Huella Chile program for organizational-level carbon management. 'STI is the nation's most significant terminal and also the first to receive this seal. It serves as a powerful incentive to maintain our current trajectory and an experience we aim to replicate across all our terminals,' she added. Collectively, ATI, ITI, SVTI, and Portuaria Corral achieved a total emissions reduction of 9,408 metric tons, an amount equivalent to the CO2 absorption capacity of over 445,000 mature trees.
