Polemis stays active in the VLCC arena
Greek shipping tycoon Adam Polemis and his New Shipping outfit continue to make waves in the VLCC segment, clinching a series of lucrative moves in quick succession. At the end of last week, brokers reported that New Shipping fixed out the scrubber-fitted, 2016-built VLCC New Giant to Unipec at around $126,000 per day, on subs, for a short voyage of roughly 45 days, according to Tankers International. The charter adds to Polemis’s run of high-profile transactions this year. In October, the Greek owner snapped up the 297,000 dwt Nave Constellation (built 2010) from Angeliki Frangou’s Navios Maritime Partners for around $52.5m, subsequently renaming the vessel New Strength. Market valuations suggest the ship is now worth about $54.8m, according to VesselsValue, underlining that the purchase price was considered firm for a China-built VLCC of this vintage—particularly one that had recently completed its drydocking and special survey.
