Pilbara Ports has unveiled its inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, establishing a foundational commitment to reconciliation and cultivating enduring, respectful relationships with First Nations communities.
The Reflect RAP was launched during a stakeholder event in Port Hedland, providing a structured approach to guide reconciliation initiatives throughout workplace operations and port communities while establishing groundwork for subsequent RAP iterations.
The launch convened Pilbara Ports Board members, employees, Traditional Custodians, and community representatives. Proceedings included a Welcome to Country ceremony, followed by refreshments and celebratory activities.
Samuel McSkimming, Chief Executive Officer of Pilbara Ports, characterized the Reflect RAP as a pivotal advancement in the organization’s reconciliation trajectory.
The Reflect RAP advances Pilbara Ports’ engagement with First Nations cultures and histories while cultivating enhanced collaboration, employment pathways, and economic participation opportunities across the broader Pilbara region.
The plan delineates actionable initiatives encompassing expanded First Nations employment opportunities, partnerships with First Nations enterprises, cultural and heritage celebration, and organizational integration of cultural competency.
The RAP addresses the five reconciliation dimensions: race relations, equality and equity, institutional integrity, unity, and historical acceptance.
Pilbara Ports will collaborate with Reconciliation Australia, employees, Traditional Custodians, and local communities to achieve measurable outcomes, including sustained support for initiatives such as NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week.
Through the Reflect RAP launch, Pilbara Ports joins a national consortium exceeding 3,000 corporate, governmental, and nonprofit organizations committed to reconciliation objectives.
