MSC to Establish New Container Terminal at Port of Aarhus
Denmark's Port of Aarhus has finalized a land lease agreement with MSC, the world's largest container shipping company, paving the way for the establishment of a new container terminal. Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), MSC Group's terminal operator, will occupy the Omniterminal, which is nearing completion. Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Port of Aarhus, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "We are pleased that MSC Group and TiL see Port of Aarhus as an attractive port and are now choosing to invest in establishing a container terminal. This provides businesses with more opportunities to trade with the world, strengthens our competitiveness, and reinforces our role in ensuring Danish supply to the benefit of businesses and Denmark." The agreement entails TiL leasing approximately 170,000 m² within the Omniterminal to develop and operate its own container terminal. The terminal is projected to be fully operational by 2027. Upon completion, the Port of Aarhus will host Denmark's two largest container terminals. This development positions Aarhus to compete more effectively for a stronger standing among North European ports, with either Maersk or MSC at the helm.
