Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI’s) operation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is launching key projects in 2025 to boost efficiency, improve customer service, and reinforce Matadi’s status as the country’s premier maritime gateway.
A major initiative includes the construction of a 2.65-kilometer road connecting the Port of Matadi to the Kinkanda traffic circle via SEP (Services des Entreprises Pétrolières) Congo and Route Nationale 14.
This project involves more than 900 meters of new road construction and over 1,745 meters of rehabilitation. The first phase, completed in June 2024, covered the 1.75-kilometer stretch from Kinkanda to Entrée SEP.
The second phase, beginning in February 2025, will extend from MGT eastward to the RN14-SEP Congo entrance. Once finished, the road is expected to reduce container dwell times, improve cargo flow, and ease congestion in western Matadi, benefiting both the terminal and the local community.
MGT is also expanding its storage yard to accommodate rising cargo volumes and extending its parking area to improve accessibility for clients and stakeholders. Additionally, a new pedestrian walkway is being built to enhance visitor safety.
Beyond operational improvements, these initiatives aim to boost local employment, foster economic growth, and solidify MGT’s role as a key player in the DRC’s trade network.
