Imabari Shipbuilding has delivered Agatti Island, a 64,000 dwt bulk carrier, following completion at its Head Office and Imabari Shipyard. The vessel was handed over on 27 January 2026.
Agatti Island is an ocean-going Handymax bulk carrier built in compliance with the Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (CSR BC & OT). The design supports efficient cargo handling and flexible trading.
Each cargo hold features topside and hopper tanks, allowing the vessel to carry a wide range of cargoes. These include grain, coal, ore, cement, steel coils, and long steel products. The vessel meets the requirements of the IMSBC Code and the IMDG Code.
The ship is equipped with wide cargo hatch openings, folding-type hatch covers, and four deck cranes, improving loading and discharge efficiency.
Environmental performance was a key focus of the design. The vessel complies with MARPOL and the Ballast Water Management Convention. Its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets both Phase 2 and the more stringent Phase 3 requirements applicable to ships built from 2025. The vessel is also fitted with a ballast water treatment system and an Inventory of Hazardous Materials in line with the Ship Recycling Convention.
Agatti Island achieves high propulsion efficiency through energy-saving devices, a high-efficiency propeller, and low-friction hull coating.
