Following recent social unrest in Haiti that has disrupted normal operations at Port Au Prince, Maersk has announced an immediate halt to all new bookings to and from the country. This measure is intended to prevent the buildup of containers at transshipment terminals. The Danish shipping giant advised customers, "For bookings already confirmed but for which no container has been assigned, we kindly ask you not to position those containers until further notice to avoid further costs or losses to our customers and to Maersk." Maersk also stated that any shipments currently in transit will be held at their present port.
