Kongsberg Maritime, PT PAL sign MoU on Indonesia decarbonisation

Kongsberg Maritime has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PT PAL Indonesia to advance energy efficiency and decarbonisation in Indonesia’s maritime sector.
The signing took place at PT PAL’s headquarters in Surabaya. Representatives from both companies attended, along with Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Rut Krüger Giverin.
The agreement sets a framework for cooperation on energy-efficient and low-emission solutions for Indonesian vessel owners and operators. It covers both newbuilds and retrofits.
Kongsberg Maritime is a global provider of marine technology, with capabilities spanning automation, navigation, propulsion, dynamic positioning, energy management, deck handling and vessel design. The company said the MoU marks the next step in its expanding commitment to Indonesia.
In July 2025, Kongsberg Maritime opened two new offices in Jakarta and Batam to strengthen local sales, service, spare parts and aftermarket support. The expansion aimed to improve responsiveness in Indonesia’s fast-growing maritime market.
Wenche Andersen, Managing Director, APAC Service Management at Kongsberg Maritime, said the partnership supports Indonesia’s maritime ambitions and shared decarbonisation goals. She added that the company’s expanded local presence will help deliver long-term value to shipowners and the wider industry.
PT PAL Chief Marketing Officer Wiyono Komodjojo said cooperation with global technology providers is essential as Indonesia accelerates maritime modernisation. He noted that the partnership will support the integration of advanced energy-efficient and low-emission technologies into future vessels.
The MoU aligns with a broader roadmap developed with Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation during the establishment of Kongsberg Maritime’s local entity, reinforcing collaboration between industry and national authorities.
