Hapag-Lloyd Reroutes IMX Service via Cape of Good Hope Due to Security Concerns
Hapag-Lloyd has announced the suspension of Trans-Suez sailings on its IMX service, opting to reroute vessels around the Cape of Good Hope. This decision stems from the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East and escalating military tensions impacting the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The shipping giant, in coordination with its security partners, has paused future Trans-Suez transits for the immediate future. Consequently, all IMX sailings will now operate via the extended Cape of Good Hope route until further notice. Hapag-Lloyd emphasized that the safety of its crews, vessels, and customer cargo is its paramount concern. The company is actively monitoring the evolving situation and will implement further measures as necessary. Hapag-Lloyd is committed to minimizing disruptions to customer supply chains and will provide ongoing updates. The carrier reiterated its intention to revert to the Trans-Suez routing for the IMX service once security conditions permit, recognizing it as the most rapid, sustainable, and efficient option for its clientele.
