European Operators Boost Belgium-Spain Rail Links
Rail freight services connecting Belgium and Spain are seeing a substantial upgrade. Routes from Antwerp and Zeebrugge to Spain will be significantly expanded, with more frequent services between Antwerp and Catalonia and the introduction of a new direct rail link to Madrid. Hupac, in partnership with Lineas for traction, will increase its existing Antwerp-Catalonia service to 10 weekly departures. This service, operating from Antwerp's Combinant terminal, will serve terminals in Perpignan (Roussillon) and Barcelona (El Morrot). Furthermore, Kombiverkehr is launching a new rail service between Antwerp and Madrid. Commencing September 3rd, this route provides a direct, twice-weekly connection for containers, swap bodies, and hazardous goods, with DB Cargo and Renfe providing traction. Trains will depart from Antwerp's Combinant terminal and arrive at Madrid's Abronigal terminal.
