Dubai’s Emarat Maritime has made a move into tanker newbuildings, emerging as the owner behind a sextet of LR2 product carriers ordered at China’s Hengli Shipbuilding.
Industry players said the Sharaf Group–owned company is the buyer of the six 114,000 dwt aframax/LR2 units recently revealed by the yard. Deliveries are slated for 2027.
The deal marks a notable return to tanker fleet renewal for Emarat Maritime, which last focused on newbuildings on the dry side, signing for six ultramax bulk carriers at New Dayang Shipbuilding in 2023.
The company, founded in 1990, currently controls 19 vessels across dry and wet segments, including six LR2/aframaxes already trading and built between 2009 and 2011.
