Damen Shipyards Group delivered four advanced dredging packages for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHDs) being built in Central America. Two vessels have completed dredge trials and been accepted. The other two will finish in 2026.
Each TSHD includes a 700 mm trailing suction pipe that operates at depths up to 25 metres, a high-performance dredge pump, and a bow coupling unit for efficient discharge. The packages also feature overflows, bottom dump valves, jet water pumps, nozzles, and advanced monitoring instruments to ensure reliable operations.
Horacio Delgado Bravo, Damen Sales Manager, said the collaboration among all parties was key to success. He emphasized that the Netherlands-designed systems will deliver decades of performance. He also noted that the project strengthens local shipbuilding under Damen Technical Cooperation.
The four 2,800 m³ hopper dredgers, though not Damen-designed, are fully equipped with Damen loading and discharging gear. They can discharge via dump valves, pumping, or rainbowing over the bow. These vessels will support port access, land reclamation, and beach nourishment.
Damen manufactured all components at its Nijkerk facility and shipped them to the shipyards for installation. The project proves Damen can deliver complex international dredging projects on time. It reinforces its position as a top provider of dredging systems and services.
