Greek owner Costamare is shipping out one of its oldest bulkers as renewal of the owned fleet presses ahead.
The New York-listed company has revealed the sale of its 2008-built panamax Rose with an expected exit from the fleet in the first or second quarter.
The 76,619 dwt ship is the second-oldest Costamare bulker after the Japanese-built 56,600 dwt supramax Clara and also the largest the company has agreed to sell after a number of handies and supramaxes were sold off as part of the focus on the larger tonnage in the sector.
The Konstantinos Konstantakopoulos-led firm bought the ship in June 2021 for about $18m and said it expects to book net sale proceeds of $4.1m after debt prepayment.
Costamare currently owns 38 bulkers in addition to 68 containerships and a 51-ship-strong dry bulk trading platform CBI consisting of chartered-in newcastlemaxes, capes and kamsarmaxes.
The company last bolstered its owned bulker fleet in September and October with the purchase of 2011-built cape Nord Magnes and 2014- and 2015-built ultramaxes Alwine Oldendorff and August Oldendorff, respectively. All three ships have since been delivered.
The latest sale follows the deal for the 2012-built, 37,019 dwt Discovery in October for net proceeds of $7.7m.
