Cimolai Technology has completed the main girder lift of the first 800-ton rail-mounted Goliath crane at Porto Val da Rio, Chioggia. Standing nearly 110 metres tall, this marks a major milestone in the project.
The first crane will be fully assembled by December 2025. The second crane will follow in spring 2026. Both cranes will be transported by barge in summer 2026. Each crane spans 118 metres and can lift up to 1,600 tonnes in tandem.
Assembly took place at Cimolai Technology’s Chioggia facility. ACCS produced the structural components, while Cimolai Technology handled design, construction, and testing. The cranes will be fully assembled, tested, and shipped ready for operation to Monfalcone near Trieste.
The project highlights the collaboration between industry, local authorities, and the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority (AdSP MAS). The Chioggia facility covers over 45,000 square metres and supports logistics, assembly, and testing.
Roberto Cimolai, CEO of Cimolai Technology Group, said: “The main girder lift reflects our engineering excellence, innovative technology, and efficient logistics.”
Matteo Gasparato, President of AdSP MAS, added: “This project shows the port’s growth potential. Maintenance dredging and a new permanent office in 2026 will strengthen Chioggia’s role and its ties with operators and the local community.”
