Intra-Asia Shipping Rates Continue to Fall Despite Chinese Factory Reopenings
Intra-Asia shipping rates have continued their downward trend even after Chinese factories resumed operations following the Lunar New Year holiday. The holiday break concluded on February 24th, but by February 27th, Drewry's Intra-Asia Container Index indicated a ninth consecutive week of decline. The index dropped by $3 from the previous week, settling at $552 per 40ft container. The most significant decreases were observed on the Jakarta-Shanghai and Shanghai-Singapore routes, which saw rates fall by 13% to $47 per 40ft and $621 per 40ft, respectively.
