Cavotec Deploys Automated Mooring System at Tangier Terminal
Cavotec has announced the successful commissioning of its MoorMaster automated vacuum mooring system at APM Terminals MedPort Tangier in Morocco. This innovative technology significantly reduces vessel turnaround times, boosting terminal productivity and lowering fuel consumption. APM Terminals MedPort Tangier, a vital component of the Tanger Med Port – recognized as the fourth most efficient port globally by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence – continues to enhance its operations through strategic investments. The recent integration of the MoorMaster system, a part of the port's ongoing expansion, solidifies its standing as a leading container terminal in terms of advancement, efficiency, and safety. Originally installed along 400 meters of new quay wall during the terminal's phase two expansion in 2023, the MoorMaster system was expanded by June 2024 to cover an additional 400 meters as part of phase three. Now comprising 45 units, the system can moor vessels along an 800-meter quay segment, further enhancing operational efficiency and flexibility. The MoorMaster system streamlines vessel mooring and release, minimizing idle time. Its active hydraulic technology stabilizes moored vessels, improving crane productivity and reducing average vessel call times. Furthermore, by eliminating the need for tug assistance, the system cuts mooring-related emissions by over 90%. The integration of MoorMaster technology is a key element in APM Terminals' commitment to optimizing operations.
