BW LNG is surfacing as the buyer behind a fresh order for two large LNG carriers at HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, after the South Korean yard confirmed a KRW741.2bn ($507m) contract last week.
Clarksons’ weekly newbuilding report names BW Group’s gas arm as the party booking the 174,000 cu m vessels, which are slated for delivery in the second half of 2028.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the parent of HD Hyundai Samho, disclosed the contract on November 18, describing it only as an agreement with a North America-based client. Market players now widely point to BW LNG as the owner.
The company controls a fleet of more than 30 LNG carriers and FSRUs, including two newbuildings ordered in 2022 that are due to deliver from Hanwha Ocean shortly.
The Samho order adds to another LNG carrier deal inked in Asia in recent days. West African LNG exporter Nigeria LNG (NLNG) has contracted three 174,000 cu m newbuilds at China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding via its shipping arm Bonny Gas Transport (BGT) for delivery in 2029. The deal includes options for a further three vessels.
