The Port of Savannah handled 486,000 TEUs in September, up 8% or 35,280 TEUs from last year. For the fiscal year to date (July–September), container volumes rose 4.7% to nearly 1.5 million TEUs.

“We’re focused on berth, rail, truck gate, and yard operations to deliver top performance for our customers,” said Griff Lynch, Georgia Ports Authority President and CEO. “Fifty-minute dual truck turn times and 22-hour rail dwell show our consistency.”

Savannah also set a new monthly record for rail cargo, moving 51,235 containers, a 21% increase year over year. The Appalachian Regional Port saw record growth too, up 48% to 4,453 container lifts. The Mason Mega Rail Terminal handled 46,782 containers, up 19% from last September.

Truck activity remained strong, with 316,889 gate transactions in September. Average single-move turn times were 32 minutes, while dual moves, now 80% of all transactions, averaged 50 minutes. Truckers typically complete six to eight turns daily, underscoring Savannah’s supply chain efficiency.

At Brunswick’s Colonels Island Terminal, roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) cargo totaled 55,811 units, down 30% year over year due to reduced global auto shipments and shifting production strategies.

“Market cycles are natural,” Lynch said. “With Berth 4 construction underway for completion in 2027, we’re strengthening capacity to help our RoRo customers compete more effectively.”
