The Port of Tyne and Artemis Technologies have demonstrated electric foiling technologies on the River Thames in advance of delivering the UK’s first electric pilot boat to the Tyne in 2026.

Powered by Artemis eFoiler technology, the vessel will provide zero-emission operations, enhanced safety, efficiency, and improved crew comfort, representing a significant advancement in maritime decarbonization.

This innovation emphasizes the Port’s commitment to cleaner, smarter operations and demonstrates partnership effectiveness in driving the UK’s net-zero transition.

Earlier this year, the Port of Tyne became the UK’s first port to invest in a fully electric foiling pilot boat, designed and constructed by Belfast-based Artemis Technologies.

This week, the advanced Artemis eFoiler technology navigated the River Thames for an international demonstration against the Tower Bridge backdrop.

The Artemis EF-12 Pilot vessel, scheduled for Port introduction next year, will establish residence on the River Tyne, continuing the Port’s strategy to deliver cleaner, safer, and more innovative port operations.

The demonstration was co-hosted by Matt Beeton, Chief Executive Officer of Port of Tyne, and CEO of Artemis Technologies, Iain Percy OBE, alongside government representatives and industry leaders.

Matt Beeton, Chief Executive Officer, Port of Tyne, stated that demonstrating this technology on the River Thames represents a proud advancement showcasing the UK’s clean maritime innovation.

Iain Percy OBE, CEO of Artemis Technologies, commented that demonstrating the Artemis eFoiler technology in action in London with the Port of Tyne showcases the practical, zero-emission solutions that will establish new industry standards, while also demonstrating partnership power in accelerating the sector’s net-zero transition.
