The summer lull is firmly behind us, with bulk carrier sales soaring. Buyers from Greece, Turkey, Indonesia, and Thailand have stepped in aggressively—outbidding their Chinese counterparts, who had dominated the market over the summer.
Among the most active names this week is Lou and George Kollakis’ Chartworld Shipping. The Athens-based owner is poised to lift its cape arm into double digits, with brokers linking the outfit to the acquisition of two Japanese-built 2011 capes, the Frontier Neige (183,000 dwt, Kawasaki) and the Cape Jacaranda (181,000 dwt, Imabari). The ships, sold by Japan’s Kumiai Navigation, are reported to have changed hands for around $25m apiece, with delivery due in 2026.
This marks Chartworld’s second bulker move of the year, following an ultramax resale secured from UK’s Union Maritime earlier in 2025.
With the Kollakis family’s latest play, Chartworld’s bulker tally now rstands at 10 capesizes, while total fleet size stands at 62 ships, according to data from VesselsValue.
