Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a strategic training partnership with GigaMare, a leading provider of maritime operations and maintenance training. GigaMare is now an official Wärtsilä training partner and can deliver certified courses on selected Wärtsilä engines in the Philippines.

The Philippines is home to a large portion of the world’s seafarers. Through Wärtsilä’s Land and Sea Academy (WLSA), GigaMare will up-skill crews on the latest marine engine technologies and sustainable shipping practices.

GigaMare CEO Jari Ullakonoja said crews need both technical skills and the ability to lead and adapt in today’s global maritime environment.

WLSA will train and certify GigaMare instructors to ensure courses meet Wärtsilä quality standards, STCW requirements, and ISM code regulations. The programs combine practical challenges with insights from Wärtsilä experts.

Tomi Urho, Wärtsilä Director of Training Services, highlighted the benefits: “Seafarers in the Philippines now have convenient access to the latest Wärtsilä expertise, making upskilling more effective than ever.”

GigaMare, founded in 2013, can now sell Wärtsilä-certified training directly to local customers.
