Türkiye-based Marport has reached another milestone by acquiring four state-of-the-art ship-to-shore gantry cranes, featuring advanced technology and an impressive 25+1 container horizontal reach, as part of the US$250 million Marport Modernization Project initiated in 2022.

Contributing significantly to the Turkish economy, Marport has invested US$60 million in these cutting-edge cranes, which will enhance operations at its terminal in Istanbul. With a horizontal reach of 25+1 containers, these cranes are equipped to handle the world’s largest container vessels.

Boasting advanced technological features, they deliver a lifting height of 54 meters under the spreader, an outreach of 73 meters, and a weight of approximately 1,600 tons. Their hoist speeds reach 90 meters per minute for loaded containers and 180 meters per minute for empty ones, while the trolley speed reaches 240 meters per minute.

Given that Marport is among the terminals that handle the largest container volumes in Türkiye, Ozgur Kalelioglu, Arkas Holding Port and Terminal Services Group President, commented: “With a capacity of 2.3 million TEUs, Marport has a market share of 12% in Türkiye and 19% in the Marmara Region. Through our investments, we have made Marport capable of serving the world’s largest vessels. We have also broken new ground in Türkiye by bringing 4 new SSG cranes to our terminal. With the launch of the new cranes, we became the first and only terminal in Türkiye to serve with 14 ship-to-shore gantry cranes.”

The advanced systems integrated into the new machines, including Ship Profiling and Chassis Positioning, maximize operational efficiency and significantly enhance occupational safety, enabling seamless, uninterrupted service for global maritime operations.
