Wärtsilä Corporation and TMS Cardiff Gas have renewed their Lifecycle Agreement for seven LNG carriers for another five years. The agreement covers the 2-stroke main engines onboard the vessels. It aims to maintain maximum operational reliability by allowing flexible maintenance scheduling and optimizing time between overhauls. The order was booked in Q3 2025.

LNG carrier operators face regulatory, environmental, and geopolitical challenges, as well as intense market competition. They must deliver on time while staying adaptable.

Alexandros Politis-Kalenteris, Deputy COO of TMS Cardiff Gas, said: “Unplanned downtime is costly in a competitive market. This agreement combines advanced technology, high-quality spare parts, and expert support. It strengthens the reliability of our vessels and helps us meet rising LNG demand and tight delivery schedules.”

Each vessel operates with two WinGD 5X72DF dual-fuel two-stroke engines and Wärtsilä gas valve units. The agreement includes Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning service. This provides flexible maintenance schedules, longer maintenance intervals, and reduced spare parts consumption. It also includes 24/7 remote operational support and contract management. Wärtsilä’s Expert Insight service uses real-time data to detect potential issues before they become problems.

Stefan Wiik, Vice President of Parts and Field Service at Wärtsilä Marine, said: “Maximizing uptime while ensuring safety, flexibility, and reliability is critical. Our digital solutions and lifecycle support help customers achieve operational excellence and maximize asset availability.”

TMS Cardiff Gas was established in 2011 and operates a fleet of 20 modern gas carriers. It is part of TMS, which manages more than 140 ships across LNG, LPG, oil/chemical, dry bulk, and container sectors.
