Norwegian car carrier operator Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed a multi-year shipping contract with an undisclosed automotive manufacturer.

The new contract has a duration of three years and three months and will begin on January 1, 2025.

The deal has an estimated value of $580m in total over the contract period. According to the Norwegian firm, the rates are in line with current market levels.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has been busy in the last two weeks or so. At the tail end of October, the company entered into a five-year agreement with an unknown agriculture, forestry, and roadbuilding equipment manufacturer worth approximately $766m in total. The contract starts on December 1, 2024.

Last week, the car carrier operator exercised options for two more 11,700 ceu newbuilds and revealed plans to boost capacity on another two currently in its 12-strong orderbook.

After lifting those four options at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, it will have eight vessels on order with a capacity of 11,700 car equivalent units which are the world’s largest car carriers.
