Wallenius Marine and KNUD E. HANSEN have launched a new RoRo design at the Donsö Shipping Meet. The concept builds on the award-winning Sleipner PCTC design and operational data from the vessels Future Way and Way Forward.

The 170-metre-long ship offers 2,720 lane metres of cargo space, equal to 181 trailers. By moving the engine room to the bow, the design frees up space for faster loading and unloading via the stern ramp and full-width main deck.

Propulsion comes from a dual-fuel electric system powered by LNG, LBG, MGO, or biodiesel, paired with Azipods for 360° manoeuvrability. The concept is also prepared for future technologies, including wing sails, shore power, batteries, and fuel cells.

Sleipner RoRo

Urban Lishajko, Head of Ship Design at Wallenius Marine, said the concept balances capacity, efficiency, and environmental performance while addressing the need for new, greener tonnage in short-sea shipping.

Wallenius Marine and KNUD E. HANSEN bring decades of experience in sustainable ship design, including LNG-powered carriers, wind-powered concepts, and hybrid ConRo vessels. With the Sleipner RoRo, they aim to push the RoRo segment toward a more sustainable future.
