Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), the automated terminal operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) at the Port of Melbourne, has received official approval to perform 14.4 Rural Tailgate Inspections.
This new capability supports VICT’s commitment to improving biosecurity compliance for containers destined for rural areas across Victoria.
The approval follows a recent policy update by Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, which expands the range of sea freight containers eligible for inspection under the Approved Arrangement class 14.4 – Rural Tailgate Inspection.
As a critical biosecurity measure, tailgate inspections help identify and address risks associated with imported sea containers. Now, with VICT offering these inspections directly on-site at Webb Dock, the import process is streamlined, reducing the need for additional container transfers and creating substantial time and cost savings for stakeholders in Victoria’s supply chain.
Furthermore, for customs brokers, importers, and biosecurity professionals, VICT’s on-dock inspection service means containers no longer need to be moved off-site for biosecurity clearance. Containers bound for rural Victoria can undergo the required biosecurity checks at VICT, allowing for faster release and lowering logistics costs.
