Fast-growing Greek owner Venergy Maritime is pushing further up the product tanker ladder, firming up a new order for LR2 newbuildings in China as it continues to build scale across the sector.
The Vyron Vasileiadis-led company has signed for two more LR2 product tankers at New Times Shipbuilding, with options in place for a further two vessels. The move marks Venergy’s clearest step yet into the larger product tanker segment, adding to an orderbook that has expanded steadily since last year.
The latest deal follows an earlier commitment for two LR2s in China. Taken together, the orders give Venergy a growing foothold in the LR2 market alongside its established MR platform.
Founded in 2021, the Piraeus-based owner had initially kept its main focus on MR product tankers. Venergy currently operates three modern MR vessels and is working through a six-ship MR2 newbuilding programme at South Korea’s K Shipbuilding, with deliveries running through to 2027. Two additional MR2s remain under option, taking the total potential order at the yard to eight units.
Beyond tankers, the wider Vasileiadis Group has also started to branch out. Last year, sister company OceanV placed its first containership order, signing up for four 1,900 teu feeder vessels at CSSC’s Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding in China.
Operating under the broader V Group umbrella, Venergy sits alongside businesses active in port reception facilities, waste management, renewable energy and alternative fuels — a background that continues to inform what the company describes as a measured approach to fleet growth.
“Our strategy reflects a long-term view, focused on asset quality, operational efficiency and strong partnerships,” said V Group chairman Vasileiadis.
With MR2s, LR2s and feeder containerships all on order, Venergy’s expansion remains firmly centred on newbuild tonnage, which now potentially stands at 18 ships.
