Turkish newcomer Aqmaris and China’s Wuhu Shipyard have sealed a deal for four ultramax bulk carriers, marking one of the first big newbuild agreements for the Istanbul-based operator.
The four 64,500 dwt units will meet IMO Tier III standards and comply with EEDI Phase III, the latest environmental efficiency benchmark. They’ll also be ready for high-voltage shore power hookups and can be adapted for lithium-ion battery packages — features owners see as essential for future proofing their fleets.
Aqmaris Ship Management is a fairly new name on the global shipping scene, headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey and registered in 2025 according to commercial records. The outfit has started rolling into the market quickly: it already took delivery of its first 64,500 dwt newbuild and is said to have more projects with COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard alongside the Wuhu deal.
The company’s stated business line covers owning, chartering, and operating dry bulk tonnage worldwide, including bareboat and time-charter operations, with flexibility to trade under the Turkish flag.
For Wuhu Shipyard, the Aqmaris order gives another shot in the arm after a series of newbuild contracts with overseas owners.
Delivery dates for the four units are expected in 2028, with the contract structured as two firm units and two options. Financial terms have not been divulged.
