Ocean Wise and Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure have expanded the Whale Report Alert System (WRAS) internationally, adding a new integration with Trelleborg’s SafePilot Pro navigation software.
The system delivers real-time whale alerts to mariners via navigation screens, as well as SMS, email and app notifications. It uses live sighting reports, visual observations and automated detections from partner networks to help reduce ship strikes.
The first rollout will support pilots in northwestern Australia, a busy export region and key migration corridor for humpback whales from June to October. The partners say the project brings environmental monitoring and navigation technology together in a single operational tool.
Tommy Mikkelsen, Managing Director for Navigation and Piloting at Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure, said the integration allows pilots to actively support marine conservation while improving safety at sea.
Ocean Wise VP Programs Dalal Al-Abdulrazzak said embedding WRAS into professional navigation platforms makes it easier for crews to act in real time and protect whales.
The partners plan to scale the system to other regions and continue working with additional navigation providers worldwide.
