Valenciaport president Mar Chao emphasized the significance of port facilities not only as logistics hubs but also as facilitators in areas such as energy transition, economy digitalization, and the continuous pursuit of innovation.

Innovation is no longer optional for our sector, but a requirement we must integrate into our operational methods, she stated.

Chao participated in opening the 10th World Forum of Cities and Logistics Platforms, conducted on 24 and 25 September at Port Authority of Valencia facilities, with participation from sector companies and institutions from different parts of the world, featuring special representation from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The president introduced Valenciaport’s strategic positioning as a logistics connection between Europe and these regions to attendees.

During her address, Chao noted that Valenciaport’s activity with Latin America totals 7.5 million tonnes, representing 9.3% of its traffic operations, a figure she believes they can elevate above 10%.

In her view, the path to exceeding that 10% involves improving speed, traceability, energy efficiency, and safety.

The Valenciaport president utilized the opportunity to emphasize the importance of different agents involved in logistics and the port world sharing knowledge, because this will be the only thing that saves us in an increasingly uncertain environment where challenges are growing, both geopolitically and in foreign trade.

She highlighted Valenciaport’s contribution to developing solutions addressing needs in areas such as energy transition.

Chao utilized the opportunity in her speech to highlight the responsibility and resilience with which Valenciaport has acted in challenging situations such as the one experienced by the Valencian Community after the flooding.
