Suez Maersk

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has called on global shipping leader Maersk to gradually resume vessel transits through the Canal, underlining its continued role as a key artery for international trade.

According to Daily News Egypt, the appeal was made by SCA Chairperson Osama Rabie during a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Egypt Lars Bo Møller and a Danish delegation at the Authority’s headquarters in Ismailia. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and exploring new opportunities for joint development between the SCA and Maersk.

Rabie highlighted recent achievements, including the upcoming inauguration of the Suez Canal Container Terminal expansion in East Port Said, a project expected to boost the Canal’s competitiveness and logistics capacity. Ambassador Møller, meanwhile, praised the partnership and reaffirmed Maersk’s commitment to the route, describing the Suez Canal as “the main gateway for global trade.”

He also noted that Maersk is closely monitoring developments in the Red Sea as it prepares for a full resumption of regular transits once conditions allow.
