Subsea7 has picked up a new North Sea decommissioning contract from Ithaca Energy, covering work on the Alba floating storage unit and the FPF-1 production facility at the Greater Stella field, about 230 kilometres east of Aberdeen.
The award, classified by Subsea7 as “sizeable” — worth between $50m and $150m — includes pipeline flushing, diver support vessel services and full seabed clearance. The contractor will run project management and engineering from its Aberdeen base, with offshore work slated to start in the second quarter of 2026.
Hani El Kurd, Subsea7’s senior vice president for UK and global inspection, repair and maintenance, said the contract reinforces the company’s established position in decommissioning work across the basin. He noted Subsea7’s long relationship with Ithaca, dating back to 2008, and said the team aims to deliver a safe and efficient campaign.
The Alba and Greater Stella assets have entered their late-life phase, adding to a steady stream of decommissioning projects emerging across the UK Continental Shelf as operators retire ageing subsea infrastructure and mid-life production units. Alba is operated by Ithaca, through a 36.67% stake with Waldorf Production (25.68%), NEO Energy (17%), Spirit Energy (12.65%) and EnQuest (8%) holding non-operated working interests in the field.
