Sperry Marine will equip two Samskip container vessels with Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS). These ships will combine hydrogen fuel cells with autonomous-ready navigation. They are the first of their kind.

The vessels are under construction at Cochin Shipyard Limited. They will be 135 meters long and scheduled for delivery in 2027. They will operate between Oslo Fjord and Rotterdam. Together, they will cut CO₂ emissions by about 25,000 tons annually in zero-emission mode.

Sperry Marine’s IBS features open architecture. It allows future integration of autonomous navigation. Each system will include the self-adaptive NAVIPILOT 4500N autopilot. It adjusts to vessel behavior and changing conditions, saving fuel and reducing bridge workload.

Other features include Advanced ARPA tracking, Secure Maritime Gateway cyber protection, and remote diagnostics. The modular design lets owners innovate at their own pace.

Jeroen Hollebrands, Samskip, said: “These ships are a milestone for clean shipping.” Pascal Göllnitz, Sperry Marine, added: “Our IBS is secure, flexible, and future-ready.”
